About Us

The Vintage Speedcar Association of Queensland was formed in 1983 by a group of ex drivers, pit crew and fans of these mighty little cars we affectionately call ' midgets'. The aim of the association is to preserve the fabulous history of the cars and drivers that provided so much entertainment for Queenslanders from the 1930s.

R.N.A. on Friday night was full of excitement as we drove into the grounds under a perfect Brisbane night sky. People were there with show bags in hand and the horse floats were waiting to pick up there loads after the day's advents.

The crowd were busily going about their ways to get the best advantage point, as they were aware the midgets were due to perform on this Hallowed ground.  When we rolled in, there were already quite a few VSAQ members with midgets in tow.

Being supervised by the security staff from the R.N.A we were all given positions, then told it was our turn.

The event would be best summed up, by saying it was fantastic display our drivers put on, all 10 in total, I don't think there would be one driver there would say it was not only brilliant, but a total joy to be running back on the home of speedway. The reaction of the crowd, well they just loved it!.

After a very leisurely drive West of Brisbane, bought us to the pretty little township of Boonah.  Where a- perfect track awaited. We found the weather was fine, with a cool gusty breeze blowing. The track looked partially good, and the drivers who were preparing their cars and  just rearing to give the tack a work-out.

Total 8 cars in all attended,  all the drivers were very  please with the track, and the number of runs that they each had.

Peter Clough, Brian Spann and Barry Wixted put on a display-event that anyone would be pleased to experience....Well done guy's.

Bob Rogers had the pleasure of driving Judy and Barry's Sesco midget, everyone was rather impressed with the manner in which he drove, and when he stopped the car, the look on his face was as though he'd had heaven- o- a- stick!.

At this point we must thank the wonderful push car drivers, Allan and Trevor, as with-out their able assistance we wouldn't run. Also to the ladies who produced such delightful big Mac's and the best Latte's, at such a reasonable price's!, and the smell of those great burgers brought the neighbours in running!.

A BIG thank-you as well to Bob Rogers, for organising such a great day, which was not only happy, friendly but so satisfying as well!

For all the guy's who sadly missed to-day, well, you missed something very special. As everything went our way, the weather, the track, great food, and such a friendly atmosphere.....Never mind guy's next time hey!!

We were also graced by a gent (Peter) who came all the way from Southport to pay us a visit, he likes the sound of the midgets, so hopefully we can welcome Peter into the drivers seat some-time soon.

Dayboro: Saturday  24:09:2011.

The day dawned cloudy with the sun just trying to peek through, as we headed North to the country side of Dayboro. Being nestled between  mountains and valleys in Dayboro it is such a pleasant countryside, and makes an idyllic setting for the Vintage speedcars to have their Demo runs.

All told, nine midgets made the day quite spectacular, relaxed and colourful to watch, making great entrainment for the spectators to enjoy.

The track had been prepared well, but dried out quickly due to a warm day which had a slight breeze, we were saved by the efficient water truck, which events organiser Bob Rogers had on hand.....Must congratulate Bob, on his nifty "Track Grader"...Bob you would put Freddie Flintstones to shame, it was great til the "Bed Rock" fell off!

The ladies VSAQ Catering Core under the supervision of Norma Rogers, and her willing band of helpers, kept up their great reputation with those tasty burgers that we have all come to love. It was a pleasure to welcome Nancy Thomae who came along to lend support....Much appreciated to see Graham and June Gibb arrive with those Eskies of ice cold water, and soft drinks to quench the thirst of all present.

Bob Baker seemed to have a problem in the Falcon with over heating but, with so many mechanics under the bonnet, the problem was soon sorted out, and he was back on the track in no time.

Nice to see Peter Sim return to watch the VSAQ at play, and enjoy a burger, you're always welcome Peter....Oh Pete, "nice wheels".

We were totally entertained when the Caged Cars put on a thrilling display, to the delight of all watching, giving the drivers a chance to show their capabilities, in total safety!.

Gee Barry Wixted has got his Volvo in top gear. Good to see it running so well Barry, you really know how to put it through it's paces!

Michele Reye moved up a notch to-day, moving into Brian Spann's drivers seat...Look out Brian, we hear tell, Michele loved the feel of your VW, and her comments were "That car, has really got torque and handles well"

Good to see the Cloughs so well represented, even though their Offies had a rest day. Only because both Peter and Gordon weren't well at all, but even the flu couldn't keep them away. Good on ya guy's, we love you're support!....On the sick list too, was Jeff Lucas but, Jeff showed as well, in true club spirit!

We would like to thank all the quad's drivers, for their help in pushing. Allen Fenn who's always at the ready with his Ute & has a smile for all. Many thanks to you, our willing supporters.

At day's end, as the comments went around everyone had a another great VSAQ day of total enjoyment. A quote from one driver, saying "With the smell of methanol in the air, makes it all worth while".

As we headed on our return journey home, very tried, but oh so satisfied...Knowing, we again had another great day with the  friends of VSAQ.
