Christmas Luncheon Yeronga Services Club

Sunday 27th November 2011

The Room ready to go

The Christmas party of 2011, was held at Yeronga R.S.L it started with great excitement in readiness for a fantastic day in air-conditioned comfort!. Preparations for the day done by members in precise military action with tables set, bon-bon's out, balloons blown, decorations in place, in readiness for the most happy, harmonious day, and one of the biggest celebrations ever!.

With Blair Shepherd coming in last for a change, the party was in full swing. With a Galaxy of Stars gathered, to share memories from day's gone by. So many greats past and present, made one feel so very humble. The surprise mystery guest was none other the Nigel Boocock, motor cycle Champion accompanied by his dear wife Cynthia.

The stories this Champion entertained us with on the day were thrilling to say the lease. His up-beat attitude, his highs, and the lows. His racing started with humble beginnings, and ended being a Champion. Presenting his country on so many occasions.  Our capable M.C, Jack Porrit had the pleasure of interviewing, and  prompting Nigel, as Jack has been known to do!

The impressive buffet lunch was superb value at $ 40:00 a head. Starting with hot nibbles, then the full on, hot and cold buffet, and dessert bar, tea and coffee. The clean plates at the end of the meal testified as to how scrumptious the food was. The drinks, and fun flowed the happy talk of day's gone by, was so infectious.

Award trophies, for support and hard work went to..Peter Clough, for the quarterly magazine. Joan and Robyn Clough, for their wonderful help in preparing supper at each meeting. Norma Rogers for her dedication and tireless work.  Judy and  Barry Wixted, and Rhys too, was awarded for their continued work, outstanding loyalty, strength, and excellent work that they do. The Norm Routley trophy yearly award went to June Gibb, for the consistence work over the years with being treasurer. A big thank-you must go to each and every one of these valued members. "The club is only as good as it's members".

The many, many raffles, and lucky door prizes on the day being shared around equality, with many people going home arm's full and very happy.

The beautifully famed print of four midgets speedcars in track action, which was donated by Kel and Lyn Young was auctioned. After much spirited bidding went to  Ian Marshall. Ian got the checkered flag with a fantastic bid, well done Ian!.. I hear tell Ian had his eye on that right from the start.

Gina Reye presented each lady present with a gift bag to take away on the day, and wished them Merry Christmas.

Well, to sum up..... Well done members, I was left with a  warm, fuzzy feeling, made feeling so welcome. A big thank-you to the committee, and Bob Baker the President, a fantastic day...Will sure look forward to next year.

As this is the last "Track Reporter" report for this year..... Will take this opportunity to say Merry Christmas to you and your's, and a safe, and happy New Year.
